1 out of 5 stars Junk! Doesn't Work Right   June 21, 2010

First, their site gave me the wrong directions. Took awhile to find the right ones. This thing once installed has never worked right. Sometimes it works fine, then randomly stops working all together. Mute button only works when I hold it down and it cycles on and off... I have to release it and hope it stops on mute. Volume works for about 4 notches, then won't go back down. Also, I need to push the buttons really hard to make this thing respond. Before it was just a light touch. This thing is irritating and frustrating. Go with the Axxess ASWC, same price, doesn't need to go though a complicated program process, and actually works!

4 out of 5 stars A little tricky to program, but it works well.   May 18, 2010

So I recently bought a Kenwood DNX5140 (from 6th Avenue Electronics, who actually sent me the updated DNX5160 - w00t), the iPod cable, the Scosche wiring harness and dash kit and this unit, the PAC SWI-JACK.

Packaging: The SWI-JACK (JACK stands for JVC, Alpine, Clarion and Kenwood, just in case you didn't know) came well packaged with instructions included. Very easy to get into, no cutting required.

Directions: The directions that come in the packaging are no use. This is not a dig at the company. They actually have a piece of paper in the box that tells you to make your life easier by getting the latest instructions off of their website.

This is very good advice indeed.

The directions on the website, although initially seeming a bit confusing, take you through the install process with ease. The one thing they left out of the instructions for my vehicle (2004 F150) is specific instructions to plug the wiring harness into the blue box. It's easy enough to figure out, but if they are going to have directions, I feel they should be complete.

Install: After reading through the directions several times to be sure I wasn't missing anything, wiring it up was very easy. I only had to connect 3 wires to the Scosche wiring harness. All of the other connections I had to make were from the wiring harness to the receiver wiring harness.

NOTE: Be sure to watch the pin placement on your wiring harness. The directions say which one to attach to, but the wire colors on the harness don't always match up with what you expect.

Programming: OK, I admit it took me a couple tries (read: 10 or so) to get it programmed. That was mostly because I was trying to decide what I wanted one of my buttons to do. Volume up and down is easy enough, as is source, but the scan button was a little trickier for me. Once I got it to something that I liked (it scans for stations on the tuner, and goes to the next song on CD or iPod) I stopped messing with it.

Delay: I read a lot of complaints about this, so I was really not sure what to expect. What I got was a very slight delay in starting to turn the volum up or down, or switching songs etc.

Is it annoying? Yes, I suppose a bit. Does it make me regret buying this? Not in the least.

Having read the horror stories may have set my expectations so low that it would have been virtually impossible to displease me, but the fact is that a half second (if that) delay just doesn't bother me that badly. I imagine that after I have have used this for a few days/weeks I won't even notice it any more.

Recommendation: If you want an after market stereo but still want to use your steering wheel controls, this is the way to do it. Buy the product and try not to stress the delay thing. I did, and don't regret it one bit.

5 out of 5 stars Works well   April 21, 2010

Detailed instructions for just about any car you would want to install this on. Programming was straightforward once it was installed and powered on. Factory steering wheel buttons now work as good or better with the Kenwood than with the OEM stereo.

3 out of 5 stars VERY SLOW   April 15, 2010
Willie Glickman (RICHMOND, IN, US)
I just hooked up the PAC SWIJACK Interface to a aftermarket jvc KW-NX7000BT in my 2004 grand jeep cherokee overland, the install was ok and setup just very unhappy with the volume button it takes way to long to respond and when it does it goes very fsst. I'm wondering if they make a different Interface that has a better react time?
